Understanding the Global South: Fieldworker Overseas Dispatch and Research Exchange Program

This program dispatches overseas students from various graduate schools of Kyoto University (July-February), and holds a research exchange meeting (March) to allow each student to present the results of their research and receive feedback from faculty and other students. The Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies (ASAFAS), which offers this program, has accumulated a vast amount of research and educational resources related to fieldwork-based research, from how to travel abroad to conduct fieldwork, to building relationships with counterparts in Asian and African countries, to crisis management during overseas activities. Through this program, we aim to share and accumulate research and educational resources by building a network with students and their supervisors who are interested in fieldwork-based research in other departments of Kyoto University, and to further activate fieldwork-based research.
